To the Members of the Film Business Alliance of New Mexico:

As you have probably already heard, Governor Martinez on Thursday called a special session of the legislature to address the ongoing budget issues. The session began at noon today and our lawmakers went almost directly into their committees to try to start addressing the state’s severe short term budget shortfalls.

At this point, with no pre-negotiated deal on the table as many had hoped for, we have no idea how long we will be here, or how long this special session will last. We’re happy to report that neither the Governor’s proclamation calling for the special session, nor the initial draft of the administration’s bill containing the Governor’s budget recommendations which was introduced today, make any mention of the film incentive.

Rest assured, we’re here in the halls of the roundhouse monitoring the activity and will be here until the end, representing the Alliance’s more than 600 members and reminding our legislators at every opportunity of the huge impact of film and television production on small businesses throughout New Mexico while also thanking them for their continued support.

We can’t rest on our laurels, though. Please stand by and keep your eyes and ears open. We will alert all of our members if we need to all start making phone calls to our representatives to let them know how much the New Mexico Film Incentives matters to our businesses, families and community.
