The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) announced in its July 2017 newsletter that New Mexico had another record breaking year for film and television productions. According to the newsletter, in FY 2017 (the 12 months ended June 30, 2017), the state brought in over $505 million in direct spending from production companies. That’s more than half a billion dollars of new money infused into our state’s struggling economy!
We understand the Governor plans to make a more formal announcement about the results in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing more of the data, but in the meantime we would like to thank a few people for all their hard work, including Nick Maniatis and the staff of the New Mexico Film Office, Ann Lerner and Eric Witt of the Albuquerque and Santa Fe Film Offices and the 32 other awesome city and tribal film liaisons located all over our beautiful state, the many state legislators on both sides of the aisle who have supported the tax incentives over the years and promoted the private investment and skills training that was essential to the industry’s continued growth, and most of all the hardworking New Mexico businesses and crew members who made it possible. Let’s keep it up and make 2018 even better!
